Blousem

WEB DESIGN / UI / UX / SUSTAINABILITY IN FASHION

CASE OVERVIEW

During this project, I worked with Blousem, a sustainable fashion non-profit organization based in Groningen, the Netherlands. Most of their communication previously took place through Instagram, but as their audience grew, managing products and events became increasingly challenging. Blousem therefore decided to invest in a website to support essential communication needs—such as clothing sales and giveaways, event scheduling, and a new feature they wanted to introduce: blog posts.

PRODUCT

Blousem.nl is a website dedicated to raising awareness about sustainable fashion and offering alternatives to fast fashion. It serves as a space for Blousem for sharing workshop and event information, showcasing creations, and publishing blog posts.

GOALS

To create a fun, colourful, and playful website design that reflects Blousem’s values and visual identity.

ROLE

Web Designer / UI / UX

DURATION

2 years

PLACE

Blousem, Groningen

CONCEPTION

The project began with outlining several design directions and requirements that the Blousem team wanted to see in the final website:

  • The website needed to be a one-pager.
  • The visual concept required a strong, vibrant colour palette that matched the existing brand logo, combined with a playful font to create a cohesive and engaging design.
  • All essential information had to be accessible within a single page, including:
    • a navigation bar with hotlinks to each section
    • a catchy hero image with short introduction
    • sections for the mission, team introduction, collection, events, and blog posts
    • a footer containing all contact details

I created several colour palette options based on the project requirements and later developed high-fidelity mockups.

Early sketches created by the client as a starting point.

FONTS

After reviewing several example font pairings, Abril Fatface and Poppins were selected as an excellent match.

COLOUR

The colour research was based on the original palette provided by the client, along with their existing logos. While the main goal for the new palette was to complement the pastel lilac shade (#D8ACE7), I also proposed alternative options leaning toward pastel orange (#FDBE7B) and pastel green (#C6DD97).

WIREFRAMES & MOCKUPS

Based on the sketches and guidelines provided by the client, I created the first low fidelity wireframes for the one-page website.

Although none of the proposed concepts were selected in full, we combined the elements the client preferred, and based on those choices I created a high-fidelity mockup using the client’s selected colour palettes.

FINAL PRODUCT

After many more iterations refining the design and UX, we decided to move away from the one-page concept and create a multi-page website with separate sections for events and blog posts. At this stage, we finalized the colour palette and introduced subtle animations and custom shapes to enhance the website’s handcrafted and playful feel.
